Joined us to run through the mediation services that her company offer. This contact came from the work the Conflict Resolution group did – led by Toby Parsons from CA and co designed with CEO reps. The Group sought to address an issue that has been a problem for some time now – the challenges that arise if there are problems between the CEO and Trustee Board. Over the years there have been several examples of this and the role for CA has always been to protect the brand and this usually involves them working with the legal entity of the LCA personified by the Trustees rather than by the CEO. This has led to a support need for CEOs which has not always been met.
They work on Independent investigations, and one to one support as well as working with organisations..
Elaine shared the overview with us- she is a mediator working in this field for 20 years- helping people to move from a situation of distress to one of more comfort. In challenging times organisations putin significant resources to resolve crisis, but less on developing skills so that people don’t move into conflict- this will reduce the need for external support.
Resolution options are negotiation (conversations)/mediation/arbitration(investigation) or finally litigation. The negativity and distress caused by the final stages are often high, so again investment in earlier stages is time well spent.
Why go for mediation ? saves money, boosts learning, gives people ownership, fast, simple to set up, diverts from formal . It is a process to help people have a conversation that they have not been able to so far.
A ‘standard’ mediation between two parties will usually take about a day and a half and cost £1500 which represents 37% less than the commercial rate ..
