Noted that Unite are representing St Mungos staff who are striking over pay rates. Several LCAs have team members who are in Unite so the issues may spill over into our teams too..
Jonathan ( Yates) has members in Unite and they made a claim for 14.2% which is unsustainable in one hit, so they are negotiating staged payments
Tal ( Michael) has recognition of Unite and they are negotiating uplifts for all team. Had been using local government scheme but concerns about affordability and TB resisted as it could only be granted at expense of reserves policy and no increases this year.
Andy ( Brown) said Unite did not understand the CAM financial model – they did not realise the link between successful pay claims and job losses when there is no allowance in contracts for pay rises.
There is a move to work with other CEOs who are having challenging individual discussions with Unite – it could be helpful to work together to share what has been accepted elsewhere. This is being pursued by Steve Hughes at CASORT.
Noted that we need to be mindful of impact on non unionised other LCAs if pay is being driven up through Unite negotiations, all pay grade work will be affected – especially with remote working meaning people can be located in a variety of places.
