We had a really good discussion this week on recruitment issues and it was clear that there are some shared concerns in relation to references . Current practices mean that it can be difficult to get all the info we need about a candidate. This is especially a problem as the pool of caseworkers seems to be moving round from LCA to LCA and sometimes people move on just before a problem with their performance goes down a formal route.. we thought there were a couple of things to do on this:
- ask Muckles if they can do a session for us on legalities on references and best practice and how best to protect and support each other
- see if CA can guide us on some good interview questions to ask to get a better gauge of skills and attitudes
